ISAGCA joined forces with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and cybersecurity response teams from more than 60 ISAGCA member companies to adopt the Incident Command System, as outlined by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). ISAGCA continues to administer the ICS4ICS program.
ICS4ICS Leverages NIMS and Other Government Incident Command Processes
ICS4ICS leverages the Incident Command System to improve Industrial Control System cybersecurity incident management capabilities. The Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) created the NIMS (National Incident Management System) to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from incidents. NIMS provides stakeholders with the shared vocabulary, systems and processes to successfully deliver the capabilities described in the National Preparedness System. Other governments around the world have adopted an Incident Command System based-on or similar to NIMS.
The Incident Command System is used by First Responders globally every day when responding to motor vehicle accidents, small and large fires, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, industrial accidents, and other high impact situations. The Incident Command System has been tested for more than 30 years of emergency and non-emergency applications, throughout all levels of government and within the private sector.
2024 ICS4ICS Program Plan
The 2024 ICS4ICS program plan describes some of the activities planned to expand ICS4ICS capabilities. This includes developing new ICS4ICS training materials and continuing to expand the ICS4ICS credential program to include more role and types of certifications. The ICS4ICS awareness & outreach team will continue to identify opportunities for ICS4ICS presentation, exercises, and engagement of government and non-government groups. The ICS4ICS exercise team will update exercise materials to include unified command (e.g., address a fire caused by a cyber incident), cybersecurity incident response joint efforts, and other exercise aspects. They will also continue to add and update resources that include procedures needed by the ICS4ICS Team.
